Artist Residency

Rec Room Arts provides established artists, as well as young, fringe, and up-and-coming artists of all disciplines, a place to develop and perform new work.

We are interested in artists who work to bend and break the rules of conventional performance.

Our community is full of artists, thinkers, comedians, renegades, storytellers, innovators, and creators. And while Houston is home to many thriving arts organizations, expensive rental fees often stand in the way of artists being able to book space. Rec Room Arts supports the development of new work by inviting artists to propose, create, and present works of theatre, dance, music, opera, performance art, film and more - free of charge.

Artist of all mediums are encouraged to apply to the Residency program. Applications are accepted on a rolling bases. Accepted candidates will receive at least one, and up to 12 performances or exhibitions for one year. Artists will also be provided daytime rehearsal space, technical support, artistic feedback, marketing/PR, and box office/front of house management. Artists will receive a stipend in the amount of 50% of the box office sales for all performances.

Our goal is to produce good, quality work that adheres to our philosophy. Our performance space is an 82-seat theatre equipped with a lighting grid and standard plot, PA system, light/sound boards, projector, raised stage and cyc. The stage is 16' deep X 18' wide. The space has two dressing rooms and ample storage space in the back. Rehearsal space, and additional flexible performance space, and a bar is also available for use.
